Hi Matt,
We met at SIGGRAPH. You were curious about origami heart stents in stainless steel. There is a good image of the Oxford University stent at http://www.world-science.net/othernews/070207_origami.htm This is very much in line with your kind of applications. I do a certain amount of folding in my own work, but I tend to put struts along the "fold" lines, and leave out the panels. The surfaces are thus *developable* and could be done in sheet metal, but are more efficient as space frames. A cryogenic isolation structure I did for Los Alamos is like this. I should post some images of these.
